Greening the Islands: A Philippine Partnership for Renewable and Resilient Island Power (Proposed Side Event at the Philippine Hub, COP31)

Island and off-grid communities face high and unreliable energy costs, so the forum will explore how solar PV, battery storage, and hybrid systems can reduce diesel dependence while improving resilience, supported by the right policy, financing, and institutional frameworks.

Date
12 November 2026
Time
9 AM – 5 PM
Venue
Antalya, Turkiye Antalya, Turkiye

About this event

Island and off-grid communities face unique energy challenges, including dependence on imported diesel, high generation costs, fuel-price volatility, difficult logistics, and the need to provide reliable electricity across geographically dispersed areas.

Greening the Islands will explore how solar PV, battery energy storage, and hybrid power systems can help reduce diesel dependence while improving the reliability and resilience of island electricity systems. Beyond technology, the discussion will examine the policy, financing, procurement, and institutional conditions needed to move projects from concept to implementation and scale.

The proposed forum will introduce a Philippine-led collaboration involving the Asian Photovoltaic Industry Association (APVIA), Philippine Solar and Storage Energy Alliance (PSSEA), and National Power Corporation–Small Power Utilities Group (NPC-SPUG). It will bring together government, industry, development partners, climate-finance institutions, and technical experts to exchange practical experience and identify opportunities for cooperation.
